ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics team blasted through the ceiling of Teagle Gymnasium, setting a school record with a 194.450 to win the Big Red Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Big Red also set a new team beam record (48.850), a new individual all-around mark (
Lyanda Dudley - 39.225) and received its first-ever 10.0 from a judge (Dudley on floor).
Cornell obliterated the previous team record of 194.025 by .425, thanks in large parts to team wins on beam and bars. Bridgeport place second (193.225), with Brockport (189.550) and Ithaca (189.150) rounding out the field.
Dudley scored a team-high 9.725 on vault, a 9.850 on beam and a 9.900 on floor, as well as a 9.750 on bars. She became just the third Cornellian to score a 9.900 on floor and the ninth to hit that milestone in any event. Her all-around score broke Randi Bisbano's 13-year-old record of 39.100 and surpassed her previous high of 39.000.
Kaitlin Green joined Dudley in scoring a 9.850 on beam, good for second overall behind a 9.975 from Bridgeport's Maya Reimers. Green also went 9.825 on bars to easily top the field, while Dudley's 9.900 on floor tied for first along with Randi Cutolo and Brianna Comport of Bridgeport.
After opening on vault and bars, the Big Red took the team lead with its big day on beam in the third rotation and clinched the victory with a big score on floor.
The Big Red will welcome West Chester to Teagle Gymnasium for a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
