ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the sixth consecutive meet, Cornell gymnastics boosted its season scoring total. For the second straight meet, the Big Red's score rewrote the school record book.
Cornell claimed a dual meet win over West Chester on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Gymnasium with a record 194.500. The Big Red didn't need a record on any of the team events - it was balanced throughout with between a 48.375 and a 48.950 on all four events.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Green, already the school-record holder on bars, posted a 9.900 to match the school record on beam as the Big Red finished 1-2-3 in the event.
Payton Murphy (9.825) and
Lyanda Dudley (9.800) also reached the podium for the Big Red.
Cornell also got an event win from Dudley thanks to a 9.800 vault.
Maci Prescott was second with her 9.750.
West Chester's Majesta Valentine won both bars (9.850) and floor (9.850), as well as nipping Dudley in the all-around with a 39.175, .025 ahead of the Cornell sophomore. The Big Red had the second place finisher in each event, including the next five on floor.
Alexandria Bourgeois (9.825), Dudley (9.825),
Elana Molotsky (9.800),
Samantha Henry (9.750) and
Joy Gage (9.750) finished second to sixth on floor, while Green's 9.775 on bars tied for second.
The major separation between the teams came on bars, where the teams were separated by 1.650 points. COrnell won vault, bars and floor team events, while the teams tied on beam with dual 48.375 scores.
Cornell will attempt to make it three straight weekends with a new school record when it visits Yale for the Ivy Classic on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
