PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell freshman Jeff Teat was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week as was announced by the conference office last evening. It is the first weekly award for the Big Red this season.
Teat takes home the honor after a phenomenal performance in Cornell's heartbreaking 19-18 overtime loss to No. 13 Virginia on Saturday evening at the Pacific Coast Shootout in Costa Mesa, Calif. The rookie attackman had a hand in 11 of the Big Red's 18 goals, scoring five times and tallying six assists.
The six assists and 11 points are the most ever recorded by a Cornell rookie and Teat's 11 points are the sixth most in Big Red history. Teat becomes the first Cornell player to register 11 points in a contest since Tim Goldstein '88 vs. Dartmouth on April 23, 1988.
The Big Red opens Ivy League play next weekend when it travels to Yale to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
