Women's Squash Announces Three Additions to 2017-18 Squad

ITHACA, N.Y. — David Palmer, the James Broadhead '57 Head Coach of Squash, announced today that three freshmen will join the women's squash team for the 2017-18 season. Samira Chatrathi, Mimi deLisser and Adinah Scherl will join a Big Red squad that returns 11 letterwinners from last season. Cornell has finished sixth or seventh in the top flight of the College Squash Association's National Championships in each of the last nine seasons.

Competing out of the Maryland Squash Racquets Association, Chatrathi achieved a highest GU19 national ranking of 41st. She competed on a squash team at McDonogh School that consisted of primarily boys, helping lead the team to a Division II national championship. Chatrathi also came in third at the 2017 Silver Junior Nationals in April 2017, and she was presented a US Squash Scholar Athlete Award.

deLisser served as captain of a Deerfield Academy squad that was ranked No. 1 in New England and third nationally in 2017. It was her second of two years at Deerfield, having also competed for two years at Episcopal Academy. Competing out of the Philadelphia Squash Racquets Association, deLisser achieved her highest national GU19 ranking of 34th. She has ranked as high at the top 20 at other levels, and she represented Pennsylvania in the 2015 US Squash Regional championships. deLisser was a four-time US Squash Scholar Athlete Award recipient.

Competing out of the Northern New Jersey Squash Association, Scherl achieved a national GU19 ranking as high as 33rd. At Dwight-Englewood, she was inducted into the Cum Laude Society and presented the Davies Award for Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She has also competed nationally at the Pioneer U19 Junior Cup in Germany, and the Dutch U19 Junior Open in the Netherlands. She comes from a strong squash family — her older sister, Hannah, will be a junior tri-captain on this year's Big Red squad, and they have five cousins who have also competed in collegiate squash at Yale, Brown and Harvard.

Seniors Michèle Garceau and Laura Watson will join Hannah Scherl as tri-captains this season. The team's schedule was also recently released and is available here.
