ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell Department of Athletics and Physical Education has announced that senior men's lacrosse player
Christian Knight has been granted a fifth-year eligibility waiver through the Ivy League Office.
Knight did not play due to injury during the 2016 season.
The 2014 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Knight earned the third honorable mention selection of his career following a 2017 season in which he averaged 11.92 saves per game, a mark that ranked fourth in the Ivy League and 12th in the nation. It was the highest save average of his career, and ranks 19th in Big Red history, the most since Justin Cynar averaged 12.29 save per game during the 2000 season. Knight posted double-digit saves in 10-of-13 games, the most 10+ save performances in his career. He opened the 2017 season by registering at least 10 saves in six games, and in seven consecutive games dating back to the 2015 season finale. That was the longest double-digit save streak of his career, and the longest by any Big Red goalie since Cynar stopped 10 shots in eight consecutive games during the 2000 season.
Under Ivy rules, eligibility beyond four calendar years requires approval of the Executive Director. Among other factors, approval is contingent upon the student having an academic enrollment plan that is approved by institutional academic officials.
