Big Red Drops Ivy-League Series at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Cornell and Brown took the diamond for a doubleheader on Saturday evening to conclude the three-game series from Brown Softball Field. The Bears were victorious in the opening game of the day, 3-2.

Game One
Liv Kam's RBI double (Brianna Rodriguez) got the Bears on the board first in the bottom of the third. Kam made her way home from second on a single up the middle by Lily Berlinger. Berlinger tacked on another Brown run on a bunt by Laurel Moody. The Bears finished the inning with a 3-0 advantage over the Big Red.

Lauren Holt smashed her fifth homer of the season in the top of the fourth to give the Big Red it's opening points of the game. Mia Burd tookover on the mound for Kyrie Denny in the bottom of the fourth. Emma Antich was at the plate when the Bears faltered on a wild pitch, advancing Kate Callaway home to cut the deficit to one run at the top of the fifth. That would prove to be the final run of the contest, as Brown ran away with a 3-2 victory. Jodie Aguirre pitched the game from start to finish for the Bears, earning a win on the mound.

Game Two
The Big Red struck first this go round on a Julie Hilcken single to center field, which sent Emma Antich to the plate giving Cornell a 1-0 lead at the top of the second. Brown took the lead right away due to a homer down the left field line from Dara English which also lapped Jasmine Hsiao around the bases. The Bears tacked on another run in the third after an error at third-base which helped Berlinger scamper to home-plate. Similar to last game, the Big Red trimmed the score to 3-2 on a home run, this time coming from Antich.

Maddie Covelli relieved Gabrielle Maday at the bottom of the sixth with hopes to aid in a successful Big Red rally. The Big Red failed to tally another run as the Bears would escape with another 3-2 victory. Alexis Guevara played the entirety of the game for the second time this series and was credited with the win on the mound.
