ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell and Dartmouth returned to the diamond for the season finale from Niemand-Robison Field. The Big Red honored it's seniors in a ceremony moments before first-pitch. The squads battled it out for eight innings, with the Big Green ultimately earning the 5-2 victory over the Big Red.
Dartmouth opened up the game with a strong showing, registering three hits in the top of the first-inning, which resulted in two runs. The first-year standout
Lauren Holt stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the first and smashed a homer, bringing the Big Red back within one. Cornell tacked on another run in the third due to a throwing error, ushering
Ella Harrod home.
Mia Burd entered the game for
Gabrielle Maday in the fourth stanza, picking up where her senior counterpart left off. Burd pitched a scoreless game in her time on the mound, sending the game to the bottom of the seventh all tied up. Harrod was able to register a hit in the inning, but that would be all as the game would go to extra-innings.
A key error from
Kate Callaway in the center field led to a three unearned run outburst by the Big Green. This would prove to be enough for Dartmouth to pull away with the victory. Although credited with a loss on the mound, Burd pitched five innings and allowed zero unearned runs.
