As a Senior (2013-14)Blair continued to build upon a fantastic career in his final year for the Big Red. In his first event of the season he posted a season best indoor long jump of 23’ 6.25” to place 4
th at the Greg Page Cornell Relays. He finished tops in the high jump with a clearance of 7’ 1.75” at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. One week later, he added another 1
st place finish in the high jump at the Robert J. Kane Invitational. Blair continued his fantastic run with a 1
st place finish in the high jump at the SPIRE NCAA D-1 Indoor Invitational. He posted a season best high jump of 7’ 4.25” to finish 1
st at the Deneault Memorial Cornell. His impressive indoor run culminated in an extremely successful three weeks. Blair took 1
st place in the high jump and 6
th in the long jump at the Indoor Heps. The following week he earned 2
nd place in the high jump at the IC4A’s. He carried the momentum into the NCAA Indoor Championships where he finished 4
th in the high jump with a clearance of 7’ 3.75”. In outdoor, Blair continued to out-jump the competition. He took home 1
st place at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational. At the Outdoor Heps he posted season outdoor highs for both the long jump (23’ 8”) and high jump (7’ 3.25”), finishing 5
th and 2
nd respectively. He paced the competition in the high jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a clearance of 7’ 1.5”. The outstanding senior concluded his career with a 7
th place finish in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
As a Junior (2012-13)Blair continued to prove he is one of the best high jumpers in the country when he tied for first at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., advancing to the national championship meet in Eugene, Ore,. with ease. He cleared each of four heights on his first try at the Regional. Earlier in the year, Blair competed in the triple jump (eighth), long jump (11th) and the high jump (first) at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships. Followed that with a seventh-place effort in the high jump at the Indoor IC4As, and he advanced to the NCAA Indoor Championship where he took 11th place. Blair was second in the Championship section of the Penn Relays high jump and wound up winning the high jump and taking fifth in the long jump at the Outdoor Heps in May. Blair was third in the high jump at the Outdoor IC4As before advancing to the NCAA Regional. Blair broke his own school record in the high jump with a 7' 5 1/4" leap indoors at the Upstate Challenge. He also broke a personal best in the triple jump with 47' 1" at the Indoor Heps.
As a Sophomore (2011-12)Blair made an immediate impact at Cornell and was one of the team's top athletes all season. Beginning with the Indoor Heps, Blair placed second with a high jump of 7' 1 1/2". He also competed in the long jump, scoring four more points for the Big Red with a jump of 23' 6 3/4". The following week at the Indoor IC4A Championships, Blair won the high jump by reaching 7' 2 1/2" to score 10 points as Cornell claimed the team title. His terrific jumping indoors allowed him to reach the NCAA Championships in Boise, Idaho, where he took ninth in the country with a top jump of 7' 1/2". He was one of just two Cornell athletes to make the NCAAs.
Outdoors, Blair continued to excel at the high jump as he took second in the Championship of American high jump at the Penn Relays. There, he set a school record of 7' 3 1/4" in frront of nearly 50,000 spectators, and his mark was also the fifth-best in Ivy League history. Blair went on to place second at the Outdoor Heps in the high jump, seventh in the long jump, and eighth in the triple jump. Advancing to the NCAA East Regional, Blair jumped 7' 2 1/2" to easily make the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Two weeks later in Des Moines, Iowa, Blair was the 14th-best high jumper in the country by reaching a height of 7' 1/2". He also claimed Cornell's Theodota Ladas Award as the team's best jumper.
Blair ended his phenomenal sophomore year with a seventh-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Blair jumped 7' 1/2" and was just a few places shy of making the 2012 London Olympics.
Prior to CornellBlair began his career as a basketball player at the U.S. Naval Academy, averaging 2.4 points and 0.5 rebounds in 11 contests off the bench. He transferred to Iowa Western CC in 2010-11 before enrolling at Cornell.
At Timber Creek HSBlair lettered three times in basketball and four times in track at Timber Creek HS, graduating in 2009 averaging 12.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.1 apg and 2.3 spg as a senior on the basketball team. He also led his track team to consecutive state titles in 2008 and 2009 (New Jersey Group III). Blair has high jumped 7'0", had a long jump marked 22'6" and a triple jump of 45'2". He was named a Nike All-American in 2008, was a two-time state champion in the high jump, was named all-conference three times and All-South Jersey twice, and placed third at the prestigious Penn Relays in 2009. His school district named him Best Overall Student and was the Black History Month award winner at Timber Creek and was also a member of the National Honor Society earning a GPA of 4.1 on a 4.0 scale.
PersonalMontez Ryan-Anthony Blair is the son of Yolanda Blair. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
