As a Junior (2017-18)
• Did not compete in any track or cross country meets.
As a Sophomore (2016-17)
• Made his collegiate cross country debut at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, finishing 41st.
• Competed in two indoor meets during his sophomore season, winning the 1000 at the Robert J. Kane Invitational (2:30.99) and placing seventh with the 4x800 meter relay team at the Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships (7:50.29).
As a Freshman (2015-16)
• Opened his collegiate career with a bang, winnning the 1000 meters at the indoor Robert J. Kane Invitational.
• Posted a pair of top-five finishes in the 800 before helping the 4x800 relay team to a fifth-place finish at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonals and running in the 800 at indoor IC4A Championships.
• Outdoors, posted a personal best in the 800 (1:52.17) at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
• Helped the 4x800 team to a third-place finish at Outdoor Heps.
Before Cornell
• As a senior at Crescent Valley High School, McGowen was state champion in the 1500 meters and third in the state in the 800 after becoming district champion in both for the second consecutive year and being named Second Team All-League.
• He earned the Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State Award as a sophomore and was a finalist in the Wendy’s High School Heisman award, which recognizes a high school student-athlete with a GPA of 3.0 or better who has proven to be a role model within their school and community.
• McGowen also played high school soccer for four years.

• Matthew Aaron McGowen is the son of Michael McGowen and Jean Schumer.
• He has an older brother, Elijah, and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
