As a Sophomore (2017-18)
• Competed at three meets this season in the discus.
• Set personal record at the Cortland Classic to take second (154-5).
• Also placed second at the Big Red Outdoor Invitational (147-0) and 14th at the Bison Outdoor Classic (153-4).
As a Freshman (2016-17)
• Added depth to the Big Red throws squad in his freshman season, finishing in the top 10 in all 14 indoor events in the eight meets he competed while adding four top 10 finishes during the outdoor season.
• Indoors, collegiate best of 49’7” in the shot put earned him third place at the Upstate Challenge while his best of 50’8.75” in the weight throw at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup was good for seventh.
• Outdoors, took second in the discus at the UCLA Legends Invitational in a collegiate best 153’ and also took second in the event at the Ithaca College Tuesday Meet while also finishing third in the shot put (42’10.75”).
Before Cornell
• Gomez, a state champion in the discus in 2015 and 2016, was named first team all-state in 2016.
• He is ranked in the top 30 high school discus throwers in the country for 2016, and holds the state meet record in discus with a throw of 180 feet, 11 inches.
• Gomez, who also throws the shot put, was the valedictorian of his class.
Personal
• Samuel M. Gomez is the son of Oracio Gomez and Holly Gomez.
• He has two younger sisters, Martha and Julia, and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
