At Cornell
2012-13: Alexander went 4-2 with one fall and three bonus wins. He won the B bracket of the New York State Championships at 174 pounds with consecutive wins by fall, major decision and technical fall. He also wrestled in the Southern Scuffle, picking up a win in the back draw.
2011-12: Alexander notched nine wins for Cornell in his second season. He placed fourth at the New York State Tournament at 174 pounds and was fifth at the Mat Town Open. Alexander also wrestled at the Binghamton Open, Body Bar Invitational and Southern Scuffle. He moved up to 184 pounds to compete in Cornell’s dual against Columbia.Â
2010-11: Alexander came on strong at the end of his freshman campaign, starting for the Big Red in dual meets against Brown and Harvard at 184 pounds and winning both matches. He also competed at the Body Bar, Mat Town Open, Southern Scuffle and New York State Championships, all at 174 pounds. Three of his six victories were by bonus points, including a fall at the Mat Town Open.
Prior to Cornell
Alexander took second place at 171 pounds at the Ironman tournament in his senior year. He was a two-time Ohio state placewinner, finishing seventh and fifth. During his career at Findlay HS, he broke or tied at least five team records, including most takedowns in a season and career, most pins in a season and career and most wins in a season. Alexander also played football at Findlay, earning second team all-league honors in his last campaign.
Personal
Michael Joseph Alexander is the son of James and Lisa Alexander and has an older brother and younger sister. His brother, Matt, wrestles at Ohio Northern University. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
