Biography

As a senior (2015-16)
• Pickett earned second-team All-Ivy honors in 2016 after a 26-11 season that culminated in his second consecutive NCAA appearance.
• EIWA runner-up at 165 pounds.
• Closed his career with a 90-44 record with 28 bonus wins during his four seasons, including three years as a starter.
• Was 3-6 against nationally ranked opponents.
• Four of his losses came by a takedown or less, and seven of his defeats came at the hands of wrestlers ranked in the top 11.
• Won the Binghamton Open and New York State Intercollegiates and was 5-2 on his way to the podium at the Las Vegas Invitational.

As a junior (2014-15)
• Pickett earned a spot on the All-Ivy first team after going 29-11 overall, including 5-0 against Ivy opponents and 14-4 against EIWA foes.
• Made his first NCAA appearance with a pair of narrow losses, one coming in the first tiebreaker to No. 9 Cody Walters of Ohio and the second as part of a 6-5 decision against Oklahoma's Matt Reed.
• Finished third at Eastern's at 174 pounds, topping Army's Brian Harvey in the third tiebreaker to claim third.
• Ranked among the nation’s top 20 wrestlers for much of the year.
• Had a seven-match win streak snapped with three straight losses as part of the National Duals, with two coming in narrow losses to wrestlers ranked in the top four nationally.
• Won a New York State Intercollegiate championship with a 3-2 decision in the finals over Brian Harvey of Army.
• Placed second at the Binghamton Open and went 3-1 at the Southern Scuffle before injury defaulting out of the tournament.
• Seven on his 11 losses on the season came by a takedown or less.

As a sophomore (2013-14)
• Pickett was an honorable mention All-Ivy League selection and made his first EIWA appearance, finishing seventh at 174 pounds.
• He finished his season with a 17-7 overall record with seven of the victories coming by bonus points.
• Pickett won the B Bracket at the New York State Intercollegiates and went 4-2 at the Southern Scuffle.
• He finished the season 5-3 in dual meets and was 5-1 against Ivy League opponents.

As a freshman (2012-13)
• Pickett recorded an 18-15 record with seven bonus wins as a freshman where he saw action in nine dual meets.
• He placed fourth at the Binghamton Open and the New York State Intercollegiate Championships and later in the season placed second at the Millersville Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Tournament at 174 pounds.
• He won dual bouts against Binghamton, Drexel and Oregon State.
• Pickett split time during dual meet season with Marshall Peppelman.

Prior to Cornell
• Pickett is a four-time Virginia State place winner.
• He was the state champion at 140 pounds in 2010, and was the runner up as a freshman and senior.
• Pickett was a two-time freestyle and Greco Roman state champion and placed second in 2010.
• He was a two-time place winner at the Beast of the East tournament.
• In 2010, he took second at the National Prep tournament at 140 pounds and placed fourth at Flonationals. Pickett is a Fargo All-American after placing seventh in freestyle in 2010 and fifth in Greco Roman in 2011.
• He is a two-time Fila Junior All-American with an eighth place finish in 2011 and fifth place finish is 2012.
• Pickett finished in the top six at the Junior World Team Trials and was a Canadian Cup champion.
• He was also undefeated at the Excel Team European Tour.
• In 2011 with the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club, he finished fifth at the Mat Town Open and was the champion at the Jamestown Open and New York State Intercollegiate Tournament “B” Bracket.
• At Woodberry Forest School, he was a lacrosse midfielder and a running-back in football.
• Pickett is also an Eagle Scout and scuba qualified with five open water dives.

Personal
• George Deets Pickett Jr. is the son of Debra and Duke Pickett Sr.
• He has one younger brother.
• Pickett is majoring in natural and environmental systems and is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
