Gibson's up-to-date results

As a Senior (2016-17)
Gibson competed in 10 indoor meets and three outdoor meets for Cornell during his senior year, finishing in the top 10 on 16 occasions. Indoors, he won the 500 at the Upstate Challenge (1:06.94) and finished second at both the Columbia East-West Challenge and the Robert J. Kane Invitational. He was also a member of the second place 4x800 relay team at the Upstate Challenge (8:20.72) and of the second place Distance Medley Relay team at the Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships (9:54.85) and the third place DMR team at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships (9:57.58). Outdoors, he took seventh at the Big Red Outdoor Invitational (50.23) and eighth at the Cortland Classic Invitational in the 400.

As a Junior (2015-16)
As a junior, Gibson competed in nine meets for the Big Red in the 400, 500, 800 and 4x400 meter relay. He was part of the first place 4x400 meter team at the Robert J. Kane Invitational and also placed fourth in the 400 (52.21) at that meet. Gibson earned two other top three finishes with the 4x400 team in outdoor track, placing second at the Bison Outdoor Classic and first at the Cornell Outdoor Upstate Challenge. He wrapped up the year with a fifth place finish in 400 at the Big Red Invitational with his best time of the year (50.32).

As a Sophomore (2014-15)
In his sophomore indoor season, Gisbon won the 500 at the Deneault Memorial in 1:07.17 and was a member of the distance medley team that ran for the sixth-best time in program history (9:53.16) at IC4A Championships. Outdoors, he finished third in the 400 at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational, crossing the line in 49.45. His 4x400 relay team took first in 3:25.17 at the Big Red Invitational.

As a Freshman (2013-14)
Gibson had a strong debut season in the middle distances for the Big Red. He helped the team take 1st place in the DMR in his first collegiate event at the Greg Page Relays. He took home 3rd place in the 400 with a indoor best 50.75 at the Bomber Invitational. The freshman had a strong performance at the Deneault Memorial taking 2nd place in the 500, while helping the Big Red take 1st place in the 4x4. He concluded the indoor season by helping the Big Red take 4th place in the distance medley relay at the Indoor IC4A’s. Outdoors, Gibson continued to shave his times. He posted a 49.87 in the 400 to take 4th place at the Cortland Classic Invitational. He marked a career best 49.14 in the 400 to score a 3rd place finish at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational. The freshman rode the momentum to the Outdoor Heps where he concluded his debut season with a 14th place finish in the 400.

Before Cornell 
Gibson was a member of both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Hopewell Valley Central HS, and captained the teams his junior and senior years. He was also the sixth-place finisher at the NJSIAA Indoor Meet of Champions in the 400-meter sprint. 

Personal
William Joseph Gibson is the son of Joseph and Hartini Gibson, and has a younger sister Genevieve. Gibson is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
