Biography

At Cornell:

Halim enters his final season at Cornell after an exceptional year where he won almost everything in sight. He has become arguably the best horizontal jumper in the history of the Ivy League. During his freshman year, he showed real promise by scoring at the Heps and qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in both the long and triple jumps, spanning 50’ for the first time. As a sophomore he was the runner up at the Heps in the triple and won his first of many Heps titles in the long jump. He also finished eighth at the regionals in the triple with a personal-best 51’5". A full time student of his events and the sport in general, Halim has left almost no stone unturned in his quest to become the best college triple jumper in the country. During his junior year, he continued his incredible improvement with clutch jumping in big meets. During the indoor season, he surpassed the NCAA qualifying distance in every meet of the year, but he saved his best for the Heps, winning both the long jump at 24’5 ½" and the triple in a new meet record of 53’4" on his last attempt in both events. His performances garnered him the Most Outstanding Performer award and the top jump in the country. He continued his improvement all the way through the NCAAs, where he finished 2nd with yet another Cornell record of 53’5", earning his first All-American award as well as the NCAA regional Outstanding Athlete Award. During the outdoor season, he was the top collegian at the Sea Ray Invitational and again opened it up at the Heps, taking both horizontal jumps with PRs in both events of 24’9" (seventh all-time) and 53’7" - the nation’s top mark of the season. Three weeks later, he won his first NCAA Regional Championship, dominating the competition and leading the team to an unprecedented seventh-place finish and finished his historic season ranked eighth on the final U.S. national list and garnered a spot at the 2008 US Olympic Trials. An injury significantly slowed him at the outdoor NCAAs, but he still managed to finish eight and gain his second All-American award in 2007.
