The 2006 Big Red
Cornell went 19-8 record (12-2 Ivy) to claim its third straight Ivy League title and earned its second consecutive NCAA tournament bid. The Big Red won its final nine matches heading into the tournament, where it dropped a narrow 3-2 contest to America East champion Hofstra at Penn State in the first round. Cornell was showered with honors for its efforts throughout the season. Senior Elizabeth Bishop earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team. She was also unanimously named the Ivy League's Player of the Year for a second-straight year, becoming the first player to do so in almost a decade. She also became just the fifth player in Ivy League history to be a four-time first-team All-Ivy selection. After ranking 17th in the country in hitting percentage, senior Joanna Weiss joined her classmate by earning first-team honors. Freshman Megan Mushovic was named to the second-team and senior outside hitter Alaina Town earned an honorable mention nod. Bishop was also named to the Northeast All-Region team before earning her second All-America honors as an honorable mention pick. She closed her career ranked in the top 10 of eight different categories in the school record books, including ranking first in kills with 1,690, over 400 more than any other player in school history.
