How We Get The Generators To The Families

Purchasing
Generators will be purchased by the Ithaca United Way in coordination with the purchasing manager at the local St. Croix Home Depot. Purchasing will take place on a rolling basis as funds are raised and supply is available.

Distribution
We will work collaboratively with a local non-profit, The St. Croix Foundation for Community Development. The St. Croix Foundation has been in operation for 27 years and was formed in the wake of Hurricane Hugo, the island's only other reported category five hurricane. In the aftermath of both Hurricane Irma and Maria, the St. Croix Foundation, has been "working diligently to facilitate a cohesive and collaborative philanthropic response that does not duplicate or dilute effective relief efforts."

St. Croix Foundation has agreed to support us in facilitating the distribution of the generators to citizens locally. The St. Croix Foundation will:
  1. Help identify criteria to select those most in need of power
  2. Create an application form
  3. Make an announcement over the radio
  4. Vet recipients - ensuring that those in the most immediate and urgent need receive aid first
  5. Do a site visit - ensuring that those selected don't already own a generator
  6. Issue a branded voucher to recipients to be taken to the Home Depot and pick-up their generator
