DERBY, Conn. – For the first time in the eight-year history of the Cayuga Cup, a team other than Yale has taken home the trophy, as the No. 18 Cornell women's rowing team upset the No. 6 Bulldogs with an impressive victory in the Varsity 8. With the win, the Big Red snaps a 10-meet losing streak to Yale.

"I am honored to bring the Cayuga Cup home to Ithaca for our win in the varsity 8 today,” said head coach Hilary Gehman. “It's a great step for us toward our season goal of going to the NCAA Championships. I am incredibly proud of the effort of the entire team."

The Big Red took the win in the Varsity 8 by more than three seconds, and earned a win in the second and third Varsity 4 race, while Yale edged out the Big Red in the Second Varsity 8, the Third Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4.

Cornell is back in action next weekend as it heads to the Charles River to take on Radcliffe and Princeton on Saturday, April 9.
