ITHACA, N.Y. – Current members and alumni of Cornell's men's heavyweight, lightweight and women's rowing programs have had successful summers, representing the United States at various world championships In total, six Big Red will represent the US at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships, held in Amsterdam from July 20-24, while an incoming heavyweight and a former Cornell heavyweight will row for the US at the Junior World Rowing Championships and the Senior World Rowing Championships, respectively.
Jim Voter '12,
Chris Massey '13 and Ray DeVirgiliis '11 will represent the United States in three different boats. Voter will row in the straight four (4-), Massey will be in the quad (4x) and DeVirgiliis will row in the lightweight straight four (LM4-). All three were selected to the team by attending US Rowing selection camps.
Two lightweight rowers,
Edward O'Neill '14 and
Dylan Gould '13, will row in the lightweight double (2x). They were selected to the team by winning US Rowing U-23 Trials.
The women's team will be represented by
Solveig Imsdahl '13, who earned a seat in the lightweight women's quad (LW4x). She and her boatmates won US Rowing U-23 Trials in that event.
Incoming freshman heavyweight
Ryan Allen '15 will represent the US in the junior men's single (1x) at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Eton, Great Britain, the site of the 2012 Olympics, from August 3-7. He won the right to represent the US by virtue of winning the Junior Single Trials in June.
Finally, former Cornell heavyweight Ken Jurkowski '03 will represent the US in the men's heavyweight single (1x) at the Senior World Rowing Championships, held in Bled, Slovenia from August 28 to September 4. Jurkowski recently placed third at the Hamburg, Germany rowing world cup and fourth at the Lucerne, Switzerland rowing world cup.
