Friedberg Claims Third Clean-Sheet of The Season, #23 Big Red Rolls To 3-0 Victory Over Broncos

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 23-ranked Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Western Michigan 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field. The Big Red improved to 3-1-0, while the Broncos dropped to 1-6-0 on the year.

Andrew Johnson, Kasper Wollstein, and Westin Carnevale registered Big Red goals in the match. Giorgos Diakos was credited with a pair of assists. Ryan Friedberg made four saves in the contest to maintain a clean-sheet, his third of the season

The Big Red weathered a few near-chances early in the contest when the Broncos maintained solid possession in their offensive end. Cornell gathered itself and took control of possession as the match settled in. Johnson put one home on a feed from Diakos in the 29th-minute to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead. Moments later, shortly after subbing into the game Wollstein managed a three-on-one breakaway that he took into his own hands to extend the lead to 2-0.

Cornell maintained its pace in the second-half, controlling pace and putting opportunities toward Broncos net-minder Lindeworth, who served in relief of Adams. Westin Carnevale scored an insurance-marker in the 57th-minute. Friedberg made four saves in the contest, and pushed to his third clean-sheet of the season. He holds a 3-1-0 record between the pipes.

"I was really happy for the guys today. Their work rate was incredible and their efforts paid off with three good goals and another clean sheet. We now look forward to another home game next weekend when we face NJIT.", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.
