Joined Cornell Athletics Staff: 2001
At Cornell: Hartigan began his career as an assistant director of athletic communications in 2001 before moving into the interim role as Director in 2004. He was hired as the full-time Director of Athletic Communications in 2005. During his time at Cornell, Hartigan has led athletics into the digital age. He was on the committee that steered the creation of the Ivy League Digital Network and its eventual evolution into the Ivy League on ESPN and has spearheaded five website redesigns, including becoming one of the first handful of Division I schools to join SIDEARM Sports. Hartigan directed a successful crowdfunding campaign to fund the creation of a digital library of Cornell multimedia content. In addition, he has earned CoSIDA writing and publication awards and was  the editor of the football game program, The Cornell Crescent. He has served as the primary media contact for various Big Red varsity sports, including men's basketball, women's lacrosse, volleyball, track and field and gymnastics. He promoted three Ivy League championship basketball teams, including the 2010 NCAA Sweet 16 squad that garnered unprecedented national media attention, as well as the 2002 women's lacrosse team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
Prior to Cornell: Hartigan was an assistant on the sports information staff at the University of Cincinnati from 1998-2001. He served as the primary contact for 15 of the school's teams, including volleyball, women's basketball, baseball and women's tennis. He also served as the editor of the football and men's basketball game programs, wrote and designed the layout for two dozen media guides and was responsible for the management of the electronic publications, including the development of the UCBearcats.com website. Hartigan was a four-year member of the sports information staff at St. Bonaventure as an undergraduate. He served as the primary media relations contact for baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and men's golf. He also assisted with the production of several media guides and game programs, along with writing articles for other university publications. Hartigan served as the sports editor of The Bona Venture and was the sports director for radio station WSBU while a student.Â

Of Note: Hartigan was hired as the youngest Division I head SID in the country when he was promoted in 2004 at the age of 28. His story "The Trustee" was named the best athlete profile in the country by CoSIDA in 2021.
Personal: Hartigan is a native of Albany, N.Y., and graduated from Bishop Maginn HS. He and his wife, Holly, reside in Ithaca along with their sons, Maxwell and Lucas.
