ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red men had a tremendous day at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by a new school record, four other top-10 all-time school performances, and eighteen IC4A-qualifying performances.

The school record came thanks to senior Bruno Hortelano-Roig. In the 200-meter dash, Roig smashed the 9-year-old school record in 21.39 to place sixth while also qualifying for the IC4As. Also sprinting well in the 200 were Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom in 22.48 and Justin McCollin in 23.01.

The Big Red's lone event victory on Saturday came in the shot put, where sophomore Stephen Mozia continued to impress. He heaved the shot 63' 4 1/4”, easily surpassing the IC4A standard. Senior Mike Murphy also threw 47' 4 1/4” in his first throw since returning from a study abroad experience. In the weight throw, Mozia reached 51' 6 1/2” for 13th, and freshman Bryan Rhodes reached a very solid 51' 5 3/4” for 14th place.

Also on the field, the Big Red had two top-10 placings from sophomore Steven Pawlak (15' 5”, fourth) and junior David Kim (14' 7 1/4”, 10th).

In the other sprints, Adarquah-Yiadom just missed the IC4A standard at 7.01, but Hortelano-Roig ran an outstanding 6.87 in the prelims – good for seventh-best all-time at Cornell – to qualify for the IC4As. He then followed that with a third-place showing in the finals in 6.89 seconds.

Cornell's only participant in the 400 was Max Hairston, and the freshman ran 49.13 to also better the IC4A standard. Hairston ran 8.24 in the prelims for the 60-meter hurdles and placed seventh in the finals at 8.34 second. Senior Zach Zeller also did well at 8.42 seconds.

More IC4A qualifications came in the 500 as Cisco Olloqui completed the distance in 1:04.53. Freshman Larry Gibson was not far behind in 1:06.28.

In the middle distances, Will Weinlandt had a strong run, taking third place in 1:51.05. Hong Cho, Matt Crawford and Elliott Rosenberg all finished under 1:55 to reach the IC4As as well. David McCuiston completed the 800 in 1:55.29.

The mile race, highlighted by the appearance of Olympic sliver medalist Galen Rupp, saw four Cornell milers qualify for IC4As. Senior Nick Wade took ninth place overall in 4:02.76, the fourth-best time in school history. John Schilkowsky was not far behind, placing 10th in 4:02.91 for the fifth-best time in Cornell history. Ben Potts (4:12.76) and Phelan McCormack (4:14.76) bettered the IC4A standard as well.

The distance runs saw senior Andy Arnold win his heat with authority in the 3K, finishing in 8:10.26 for ninth overall and the fifth-best time in the Cornell annals. That run qualified him for IC4As, and junior Max Groves did the same with a personal-best 8:18.19. Freshman Ben Rainero (8:31.92) and sophomore David Melly (8:36.00) also had personal records, and Matt McCullough crossed the finish line in 8:41.68.

In the 5K, senior Brett Kelly qualified for IC4As with a run of 14:31.98. That was good for sixth overall. Freshman Brian Eimstad also ran the best 5K of his life, breaking the 15-minute barrier for the first time at 14:58.55.

The day concluded with the 4x400 relay, where the Big Red's “A” team took seventh thanks to a terrific anchor leg from Hortelano-Roig. Gibson (49.5), Olloqui (49.3), Hairston (49.0) and Hortelano-Roig (47.1) reached the IC4As with that run. Cornell's “B” team finished in 3:23.05 thanks to Cho, McCollin, Ojukwu and Zeller.
