The primary mission of the Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) office is to support the efforts of every student-athlete in balancing their academic and athletic goals in conjunction with existing campus services. The services, available to all student-athletes, have been designed to support their academic and personal objectives. The programs and services are based on the philosophy that the development of the whole person is of primary interest. At Cornell, student-athletes are first and foremost students, who are highly committed to both their academic and athletic pursuits.
The Andrew '78 and Margaret Paul Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support, Development and Inclusion maintains contact with the Athletic Department's administration, coaches, and university faculty and personnel regarding the academic progress of student-athletes.

ACADEMIC SERVICES
Academic Support
Academic support is provided in partnership with the student-athletes' assigned academic advisor, faculty advisor, and college student services office.
Â
Tutoring Services
Tutoring services are available to all student-athletes as a supplement to existing tutorial services on campus. Student-athletes may request a tutor by completing an online Tutor Request through ARMS. A link to request a tutor is also available within the Cornell Athletics Student Services Canvas course.
Â
Laptops
Laptop loans are available for student-athletes to use either on-campus or during travel to and from competitions. Laptops loans are meant to assist student-athletes on a temporary basis and are not intended for extended use or as a permanent replacement for personal computers. Requests for laptops can be made in person by visiting athletics staff in the Student Athlete Support Services office (Bartels 217B). Laptops are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
Important note: While using a loaner laptop, be sure to practice safe computing by saving your work to your own personal USB flash drive, to cloud storage such as Cornell Box, or by emailing your work to yourself as an attachment. Always remember to save your work often.
Laptop Loan Policies
- PC laptops can be borrowed from room 217BÂ by any student-athlete with a valid Cornell ID.
- Due to our limited supply of laptops, the laptop loan period is two (2) weeks from the day a laptop is checked out.
- Laptop loans can be renewed but renewal must be done in person and will be approved only if no other student-athlete is on a waiting list. No phone or email renewals will be accepted.
- Do no leave laptops unattended for any length of time. You are responsible for any equipment lost, damaged or stolen.
Â
Academic Support Workshops
Workshops can be scheduled through the SASS office or by contacting the Learning Strategies Center (LSC). The LSC supports the academic experience of Cornell's diverse undergraduate students, recognizing that the academic context has unique concerns and pressures that contribute significantly to overall student well-being. Private consultations or team-based sessions can be scheduled. The LSC also offers peer led workshops throughout the semester.

We also offer the Student-Athlete Assistance Fund, outlined below:
Student-Athlete Assistance Fund
The NCAA provided institutions with the use of the Student-Athlete Assistance Fund (SAAF), which is intended to assist in covering student-athletes’ non-athletics-related costs while attending an institution.
SAAF assistance is not guaranteed and is used to address a variety of needs across the Big Red student-athlete population. As such, SAAF funding is only available for Pell Grant recipients, non-US citizens who have a demonstrated financial need that is comparable to those qualifying for Pell Grants, and those who are receiving institutional aid. As such, student-athletes should consult with Student-Athlete Support Services BEFORE incurring expenses that they expect to be covered under SAAF.Â
Please note:Â Assistance from the SAAF comes in the form of a REIMBURSEMENT. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please schedule a meeting with Student-Athlete Support Services.
SAAF requests must be incurred AND reimbursed within the same academic year. Assistance requests need to be submitted prior to the end of the academic year in which the purchase occurred. Student-athletes have until the final day of the semester to submit SAAF requests. Anything submitted after the close of the academic year, cannot be processed.
Up to $600, per academic year, can be provided to those student-athletes who qualify to purchase essential items from the list below. Funding can also support emergency, designated travel to-and-from their permanent home residence, once per academic year.
Permissible Purchases must fall into the following categories:
- Educational Expenses and Fees

- Admissions to events or subscriptions required for class.
- Cap and gown rental fees
